HISTORY
Pursuing the idea that in the
researches of speech and language only multidisciplinary
approach, through practical verification and application of
scientific-research results, can enable more comprehensive
insight into such a complex phenomenon, professor Djordje Kostic
founded laboratory for experimental phonetics within Serbian
Academy of Sciences in 1949, which in 1951 developed into the
Institute for experimental phonetics, learning of foreign
languages and speech pathology. Being revolutionary in the
approach to scientific-research work, the Institute quickly
became one of the leading institutions in the area of speech and
language researches. This dynamic development includes
collaboration with large number of institutes and faculties in
the country and abroad, through a range of national and
international projects.
Widest frameworks of speech and
language researches led to original scientific results, which
found their place both in theory and in practical application.
These knowledges have significantly influenced the change of
established concepts in different spheres, often resulting in
qualitatively new approaches in certain areas. The Institute for
foreign languages in Belgrade and Faculty of Defectology were
formed under the patronage of the Institute. Also, KSAFA system
is developed as a unique approach in work with hearing impaired
children and children with speech communication disorder.
