WORD WIZARDS

School of speech WORD WIZARDS is the project compiled at the Institute for Experimental phonetics and speech pathology, intended for the development of speaking skills, promotion of the culture of speech and interpersonal communication of children and teenagers from 3 to 20 years of age. The school is intended for all children of average speech-language abilities, as well as for speech-language gifted children, who have the opportunity to develop and enrich their existing gift for speech learning from the most suitable literature material consisting of carefully chosen: verbal situations and contents, fairy tales, fables, stories, rhymes, folk literature and art and music masterpieces.

WORD WIZARDS develop awareness of the power of words and necessity of its appropriate, cultivated use.

Word, a powerful “weapon” in the battle for conquering new, more abundant areas in an endless language space, used correctly and humanely, will enable children and teenagers to master the language inviolably and forever, at the same time approaching it responsibly and affectionately. WORD WIZARDS master speech tolerance of words, which implies entire tolerance among people, under the slogan Nice word against violence, aggression and intolerance.

Structure and curriculum of this school enables special talents to prove and improve. It offers all attendants unlimited number of possibilities to prosper creatively and verbally in the area of language, which is the most perfect means of communication, knowledge and creation.

By careful choice of contents and subtle programs, WORD WIZARDS actively observe and discover power of words through their most subtle meanings. Their role in such undertaking is extremely creative and inspiring.

Each stated thought, and each spoken word will become responsible for its own sense, emotional expression and melody. Above all, they will have appropriate meaning, carrying clear and precise message.

School of speech finds inspiration for superb creativity in each attendant, as a unique source of thoughts, feelings and words.

Abundance of words, their creativity and power are reached at the School of speech through: 

-development of abilities of active listening and subtle observation,

-development of abilities of active watching and subtle observation,

-development of imagination and cherishing creative thinking,

-development of harmony of thoughts, feelings and speech,

-development of observation and describing oneself, the surrounding world, and one’s inner world,

-development of the language sense for the sentence, combining words into sentences, analysis of sound structure of words,

-introduction of correct articulation of sounds and word accents (in a clear, articulated manner),

-directing attention to listening to paralinguistic information in one’s own and speech of other people,

-development of adequate emotional verbal expression, with particular focus on effect of words,

-enrichment of vocabulary with new words and activation of passive vocabulary,

-development of motivation for cultivated speech communication,

-development of curiosity, creativity and thirst for knowledge.

School of speech "Word Wizards" organizes work in groups of up to seven attendants aged 3 to 18, once a week for 60 minutes.

All verbally gifted children and teenagers, but also those who just "like to speak", can become a part of a language Fairy tale, where they will grow verbally and become word wizards of a New Age.
